Wangaratta aims to boost facilities further to secure future Ovens & Murray grand finals

RURAL City of Wangaratta mayor Ken Clarke was “chuffed” to hear that the Norm Minns Oval venue could compete against a rejuvenated Lavington if this year’s O&M grand final is a success.

Lavington has had a stranglehold on hosting the event since 1994 – the last time it was staged in Wangaratta when the Rovers beat Wodonga by 59 points.

This year’s grand final is estimated to boost the rural city’s economy by more than $1 million, which includes revenue to both Wangaratta Magpies and Rovers football netball clubs as a kickback from catering on the day.
