    Some seven drink drivers and four drug drivers were detected in the Wangaratta Police Service Area during the operation.

    A MOTORCYCLIST was caught riding at more than twice the speed limit on Snow Road on the long weekend.

    Senior Constable Patrick Murray of Wangaratta Highway Patrol said Operation Regal, a statewide police operation targeting poor driver behaviour during the Queen’s Birthday weekend, “went okay” in Wangaratta, with a few incidents occurring.

    However, the long weekend ended in tragedy across Victoria with a cyclist, a motorcyclist, a pedestrian and two drivers being killed over the four days.

    Of the 97 speeding offences in Wangaratta across the long weekend, the worst was a motorbike rider who was apprehended after he was detected travelling at 202 kilometres per hour in the 100 kilometre per hour zone.
