MEN against boys.
That was the summary of yesterday’s Wangaratta derby with the Magpies showing the rest of the league how scary they can be when in full flight, dismantling their archrival Wangaratta Rovers by 170 points.
While both teams had players sidelined, the Hawks were always going to miss the likes of vice-captain Michael Clark, Coen Hennessy, Lachie Raven and Shane Gaston more.
And by the time the final siren sounded, ending the Hawks’ pain, the crowd had largely dispersed from the Norm Minns Oval, keen to get out of the chilly conditions.
Wangaratta skipper Michael Newton also had his feet up after kicking eight goals in the first three quarters before sitting out the final term.
He could afford to rest though as his teammates were far too good for the Hawks, using their bigger bodies to win the contest before feeding the ball to their sizzling outside runners.
