    AS rising utility bills cause more locals to seek emergency relief, the Wangaratta community is again stepping up to the plate to assist people in need during the colder months.

    While local charities say demand for welfare assistance is now year-round, the post-Christmas and winter periods still create spikes, and are times when the Wangaratta community is quick to respond to calls for help.

    Wangaratta’s St Vincent de Paul conferences and the Anglican Diocese of Wangaratta have launched their winter appeals in the last week, calling on the community to support their work, while Loaves and Fishes – Christians Caring received $5000 worth of groceries through donations handed over at Wangaratta supermarkets last weekend.
