IF you had told St Bernard’s Primary School student Will McCarthy (pictured) that a classroom poster competition would take him to Sydney, he probably wouldn’t have believed you.
But that is what happened – with the 11 year old’s anti-bullying poster design one of 33 finalists picked out of 45,000 registered children that entered Interrelate’s ‘Say No To Bullying’ poster competition.
“It was just an art class poster that we all entered into the competition…I was so excited and happy when I found out I was a finalist,” Will told the Wangaratta Chronicle.
The competition’s theme was ‘Bullieve in yourself’ and focused on self-belief, with ties to the hit 20th Century Fox movie Ferdinand.
The competition aimed to raise awareness of the issue of bullying and to assist schools to identify and address bullying behaviours in their communities.
Will and his parents travelled to Sydney last Thursday, for the ceremony on Friday that recognised the finalists, and announced a New South Wales student as the overall winner.
