FOR the first time this season, Wangaratta City didn’t come away from its AWFA match with three points with the Red Devils suffering a disappointing 2-1 loss to Boomers FC on Sunday.
Playing at home, the Red Devils started brightly but couldn’t capitalise with three early chances going begging.
Ben Russell broke the deadlock after half time by scoring on 53 minutes but Boomers weren’t to be denied, scoring twice in the space of five minutes to steal an upset win.
The result means Wangaratta City is now three points adrift of Myrtleford ahead of the two sides’ clash this Sunday.
Wangaratta City coach Mario Antonello said missed opportunities and losing his midfield stars were reasons for the loss but added the group was far from pleased with their performance.
“It was a very disappointing result for us,” he said.
