    THE State Government is pursuing an immediate lift to the North East train service, while commuters await significant improvements from a two to three year roll-out of $235 million in works to fix the line, and allow new and faster rolling stock to run.

    Victorian Public Transport Minister Jacinta Allan on Friday confirmed to the Wangaratta Chronicle that she has asked V/Line to review “causes and provide advice” to fix train faults, delays and cancellations that have occurred on the line over recent months.

    The reliability of the V/Line service has been in a slump for much of 2018, but new figures for April are the most positive all year (see full story page 5).

    There are a range of factors that contribute to poor V/Line performance such as track condition, signalling faults, passenger delays and rolling stock maintenance,” Minister Allan said.

    “This data is also being used to inform and prioritise the scope of works and the delivery schedule for the ($235 million) North East Line project.
