REIGNING premier Wangaratta must continue to find multiple avenues to goal this season if it is to discover its best form according to coach Dean Stone.
Skipper Michael Newton has started the season brilliantly with 22 goals from the first five weeks but regular contributors have been hard to find.
Matt Grossman is the Magpies’ second highest goal kicker with six goals while Frazer Dent (five) and Joe Richards (four) kicked all their goals in one game.
In the Magpies’ three wins this year, Newton has kicked four goals or more, however, the losses to Wodonga Raiders and Albury he managed returns of just three and two, although he did sit out the second half against the Tigers.
But the pleasing thing in the past two weeks against Yarrawonga and Corowa/Rutherglen has been the spread of goal kickers.
They had six goal kickers in the win over the Pigeons with Dent’s five majors super helpful while 10 players hit the scoreboard against the Roos last Saturday.
