    WANGARATTA airport has formed part of a package deal along with three others in the North East and Border in a bid to secure a Qantas Group Pilot Academy worth millions of dollars to local economies.

    The Rural City of Wangaratta, Federation, Moira and Berrigan councils will make individual bids to secure a $20 million pilot academy, a concept enterprise that will initially train 100 pilots, growing to 500 in years to come.

    The offer by Qantas is open to every city or shire across the nation, but Wangaratta and Federation councils initiated the idea to offer the highly reputable airliner more bang for its buck by putting a joint offer on the table.
