THE project involving the roll-out of $235 million in works on the North East rail line will be discussed by a steering committee chaired by Transport for Victoria this week.
Community engagement will be a factor in the talks that are expected to inform a timeline for the works to be carried out.
The State Government failed to provide funding for new rolling stock in the 2018/19 budget as it is sticking with its view that “it is not possible” to provide new train sets until the track is upgraded.
“The Victorian Minister for Public Transport has written to the Deputy Prime Minister to ask for the urgent release of the ARTC’s timeline for the North East line upgrade,” a Victorian government spokesperson said.
The Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) told the Wangaratta Chronicle that there is a range of factors that impact V/Line’s performance and they are working closely with V/Line to help address the areas impacting their services.
