    THE ANZAC BAND: The Anzac Band with Sgt Edward Bright in pith helmet, was taken in Esbekieh Gardens in Cairo, after having presented a concert at the first ‘Anzac Club’, on the first ‘Anzac Day’.

    Despite attending countless Anzac Day services the day has never lost its impact on Philip Bright, Wangaratta RSL sub-branch commemorative events coordinator.

    “All you need to do is look at the names on the honour boards and cenotaphs and understand that this is what war is,” Philip said.

    “These are the boys from right here who went away and didn’t come back.

    “They represent all those who were willing to write a blank cheque for our freedom today, even up to death.

    “We don’t celebrate the day; we commemorate it.
