DEPARTING Wangaratta Catholic priest Fr Novelito Lim said he was told the first two years of priestly life were expected to be full of ups and downs.

But after two years and four months serving Wangaratta’s Catholic parishes, the 29 year old believes he may have experienced an easier road than some of his peers.

“I have been really happy in this parish – the people are so nice and have been so welcoming,” he said.

There was disappointment among local congregations on Easter Sunday, as Fr Novi announced to parishioners that he would be moving on to his next challenge, his first parish priest appointment in Kerang.

With his ready smile and penchant for using popular culture and games to highlight the point of his homilies, ‘Fr Novi’ quickly found a following in Wangaratta, particularly among the district’s families and young people.

He said he enjoyed watching cartoons, and that finding the moral messages in Disney movies and using them when talking to children during school gatherings had helped the parishes’ youngest members understand some complex themes.

Fr Novi came to Wangaratta in November 2015, just over a month after his ordination.
