EXPERIENCED beef producer John Muraca will head up a new board to manage the Wangaratta Livestock Exchange.
It comes off the back of a below average selling season in 2017 in terms of head of cattle sold, with only 27,338 processed through the exchange – a low figure mainly due to industry trends.
The Markwood based third generation farmer will be joined by other expert people in the field of livestock sales such as agents Justin Keane and Daniel Fischer, sheep and lamb producer Doug James and Chris Gillard, the former general manager of Federation Council.
They will be charged with guiding the livestock exchange business in a competitive market with the aim of promoting its long-term viability.
Council will maintain ownership of the saleyards and the directors will make decisions to maximise the facility’s profitability through strategic marketing to potential vendors and buyers in the catchment area.
