CONCEPT plans for redevelopment of Wangaratta’s railway precinct are expected to be unveiled in coming weeks.
Revamping the precinct around Norton Street is among the projects in the Rural City of Wangaratta’s central business district masterplan, The Wangaratta Project, which have been chosen for action by council.
Rural city mayor Ken Clarke said council was seeking $2.5 million in funding for the $5 million railway precinct development, which would involve streetscape and community infrastructure upgrades.
“We will be making an approach to the State Government on the sale of Melbourne Ports, which will see $100 million going to regional councils, as we are hoping to get some money from the State Government to do that project,” Cr Clarke said.
The railway precinct redevelopment is among six priorities identified by council early last month as being crucial to growing investment and jobs throughout the region.
