A BOOK club with a difference kicked off at Galen College last week, offering parents a unique window into their year 12 children’s studies.

Designed for parents to learn more about and discuss the texts their children are studying in year 12, the book club also aims to help parents model reading habits, and get to know teachers.

“It’s not about making the parent a tutor; rather, it’s about creating the possibility of having conversations about the texts being studied,” English teacher Kate Angikiamo said.

“Parents can bring their own life knowledge to helping students understand the texts.”

The first session was held last week, with eight parents and four staff members gathering to focus on Alfred Hitchcock’s film ‘Rear Window’, and Ms Angikiamo said it resulted in a lively discussion.
