WANGARATTA District Specialist School is seeking assistance to replace an ageing bus known as ‘The Rattler’.
School parent Tim Hearn said the existing vehicle, which transports students from the bus hub at Wangaratta High School to the WDSS Appin Street campus and on community outings, had seen better days.
“It’s done over 100,000km, the seating and door are not brilliant, and for comfort, as soon as the kids get on, the windows are open, which makes it noisy, and it rattles,” he said.
“It is also in constant use because of our increasing enrolments.”
The school needs to raise $70,000 to purchase a new Toyota HiAce Commuter, which would have the added advantage of being accessible to drivers with regular car licences, rather than requiring a bus licence.
