PRIZE money for the Wangaratta Cup could be increased next year as Wangaratta Turf Club boss Paul Hoysted continues to look at ways to increase the popularity of the local racing carnival.
The Wangaratta club hosted its first two-day racing carnival of the modern era with 15 races across two days including the prestigious Wangaratta Cup and VOBIS Gold Eldorado events.
Unfortunately for the local punters, however, the Wangaratta Cup only had six runners with local entrant Doogans Rise one of three scratchings.
Jumps horse Angelology took out the victory ahead of Velox and Oncidium Ruler.
Hoysted has seen much change at the turf club during his time in charge and believes an increase in prize money could provide another boost to the Wangaratta Cup.
“We are continuing to work with Racing Victoria,” he said.
