WANGARATTA Rovers and Wangaratta Magpies began the final tune ups of their preseason with their first match practice of the year.
Wangaratta Rovers held an intra club practice match at Cathedral College on Friday night with teams mixed with senior, reserve and under 18 players.
Prized recruit Lachie Raven was on fire in his first game since breaking his leg at Tarrawingee last season.
Raven’s running to break the lines, pressure and clean disposal were highlights and would have certainly pleased co-coaches Ross Hill and Sam Carpenter.
Carpenter was vocal, as was captain Shane Gaston, Stuart Booth was strong over the football, but it was the presence of the younger brigade that stood out.
Pat Hourigan, Regan Gorman and Sam Allen impressed, while Jayden Bear and Chris Knowles provided strong contests with Bear moving the ball well through the middle of the ground.
