Ratepayers may pay more for their kerbside collection

RURAL City of Wangaratta council is seeking advice in an attempt to avoid a price hike on the kerbside collection.

Waste company JJ Richards is pushing for a blanket increase on its services.

It comes as China introduced a blanket ban on 24 recyclable products from January 1.

During 2017/18 it is costing ratepayers across the city $1.4 million to have about 12,000 recycle bins collected each fortnight.

This is a 6.1 per cent increase on last financial year’s figure of $1.32m for recyclables.
