A TRUCK driver was lucky to escape serious injury when his B double left the Hume Freeway yesterday morning near the Bowser interchange, just missing a tree before it ended up in a culvert.
The accident occurred at around 3.30am on the south bound carriageway with emergency services closing one lane while the truck was recovered.
Acting Sergeant Mark Weller from Wangaratta police said the driver escaped serious injury and heavy haulage equipment was needed to drag the truck from the culvert.
CFA Region 23 operations officer Trevor Logan said CFA units from Wangaratta and North Wangaratta attended the scene and closely monitored the situation due to the freight on the tautliner.
“It was a mixed load on the way to a hardware store and contained some chemicals including paints and solvents so we stayed until the truck was righted in case there was any spillage,” Mr Logan said
