ALLEGATIONS that some clubs breached the salary cap in 2017 are untrue with AFL North East Border saying the six clubs under investigation have just been “randomly selected”.
Reports surfaced last week that up to six clubs within the Ovens and Murray, Upper Murray, Tallangatta and District, and Ovens and King leagues had breached the salary cap.
AFL NEB announced prior to Christmas that investigations had begun with AFL Victoria integrity officers to work with the selected clubs.
But AFL NEB region general manager John O’Donohue confirmed that no club had been accused of spending more than the respective cap in its league.
“We are conducting investigations with up to six clubs,” he said.
“Should the integrity officers find anything that they deem to be worth following up then they will delve a little deeper.
