AN independent inquiry into Goulburn Ovens TAFE (GOTAFE) has been ordered by the State Government following a recent investigation into the institute’s practices.

Victorian Department for Training and Skills has sent an invoice to GOTAFE in January to reclaim $1.7 million in funding related to contractual non-compliance and to seek commitment that improvements will be implemented.

It followed investigations into government funded training delivery at GOTAFE between May and December last year which indicated a failure to notify the department and regulator about third-party training and instances where funding for training has not been validly claimed.

A department spokesperson told the Chronicle GOTAFE indicated it will repay the amount in full and repayment terms were currently being negotiated.

Victorian Minister for Training and Skills Gayle Tierney said the government ordered a full independent inquiry to get to the bottom of problems identified at GOTAFE.
