A WOOLSHED Valley resident has expressed grave concerns about danger to life and property in the area in the wake of a recent minor blaze.
Wayne Mills coordinates the Woolshed Valley Firetree, a telephone based bushfire alert system for residents in the area, and said the incident underlined concerns he had about local mobile phone reception and fire readiness.
“Several years ago, the CFA placed an embargo on their personnel providing information to firetrees, and because of this, my primary source of timely information about bushfires is the VicEmergency Smartphone App,” he said.
The problem was brought to a head on January 24, when Mr Mills was busy in the workshop on his property with his smartphone handy.
“I became aware of the possibility of a fire when I heard a helicopter circling just to the north of my property,” Mr Mills said.
