TALENTED Wangaratta sportsman Brad Melville (pictured left) will not have to put his Ovens and Murray football career on hold after all.

Melville announced in early January that he would spend the winter months playing cricket in England, ruling him out of playing any part in Wangaratta’s premiership defence.

However, Melville has been ruled ineligible to play in the Airedale and Wharfedale senior cricket league having represented Victoria Country at state level last year.

“The penalties are very severe if you break the rule,” Melville said.

“You have to wait five years after your last state game or have a certain visa to play.

“That ruled me out, it is disappointing but I am hoping they look at the rule because it prevents a lot of players from going over.”
