THEY came, they saw and, after a dominant start, Wangaratta Lady Warriors conquered the North East conference grand final defeating Wallan by 23 points.
It was the first time in the history of the North East conference Country Basketball League that Wangaratta Lady Warriors have made the final, and made further history when they took out the game in front of a packed Wodonga Sports and Leisure Centre on Saturday night.
The Lady Warriors dictated the grand final game on their terms early in the quarter, leaping out to an 18-7 lead at the end of the first stanza.
After starting with their most experienced five in Jade McCowan, Alaana Northey, Chloe Storer, Rachel Jeffery and Catherine Guest, the Warriors were able to establish a solid buffer before Wallan had even settled.
Fuelled by a mixture of adrenaline and desperation, Wangaratta continued to find the bottom of the basket, while Wallan struggled to keep up.
Everything was on the line, but after settling quickly and grabbing the 11-point lead, Wangaratta was firmly in control.
