WANGARATTA businesses in Tone Road are facing closure next Thursday due to a planned power outage by AusNet Services.

One of the hardest hit will be Alpine Truss, one of the rural city’s largest manufacturers which employs over 100 staff.

“Ausnet are looking at cutting the power from 8.30am to 4pm and I will have to put 110 people off for the day,” George Prothero, Alpine Truss managing director, said.

“We’re already under pressure to meet orders and I can’t afford to lose five minutes let alone eight hours.”

Mr Prothero said Alpine Truss was in competition with 85 manufacturers from the metropolitan region and a day of lost work could jeopardise existing and future contracts with clients.
