WANGARATTA Football Netball Club is all but certain to make an application to host the 2018 Ovens and Murray Football Netball League following news that Lavington Oval will be unavailable.
The league’s showpiece event has been held at Lavington since 1995, however, the redevelopment of the Lavington sports precinct has forced the O&M to find an alternate venue.
Ovens and Murray chairman David Sinclair confirmed Lavington was off limits for 2018 and said selection of the grand final venue would be via a tender process.
Wangaratta FNC has made no secret of its desire to bring the grand final to the Norm Minns Oval in the past and looks to set to battle it out with Albury Sportsground for the right to host the league’s showpiece event.
When contacted by the Wangaratta Chronicle yesterday, Wangaratta FNC president Tony Goodison said the club was “very likely” to proceed with an application.
“We’ve got it set down for our March board meeting and I would say it would be very likely we would make an application,” he said.
