REIGNING Ovens and Murray premier Wangaratta is set to receive a massive boost on the eve of the 2018 season with star forward pair Josh Porter (far right) and Ben Speight almost certain to re-sign.

Porter and Speight played massive roles in the Magpies’ victory over Albury on grand final day, however, are yet to re-sign for the 2018 season.

The delay for Porter has been due to his return to the USA almost immediately following the premiership while Speight’s future remains up in the air due to his job as a pilot.

But with Porter set to return to Australia next week, it is likely the Magpies will confirm his intentions to remain with the club then.

Wangaratta coach Dean Stone said while neither Porter nor Speight had put pen to paper, he was confident both would line up come round one.

“Josh is still overseas but I speak with him constantly and all the boys speak with him constantly,” he said.
