WANGARATTA’S reputation for attracting the highest quality young beef cattle to its annual Blue Ribbon Weaner Sale was enhanced at last week’s event.

The two day sale on Wednesday (young steers) and Friday (heifers) attracted buyers from far and wide who were prepared to pay top dollar for some of the young local beef.

Agents offered 2566 steers which sold for an average price of $1017.15, with around 1200 heifers sold – the total yarding worth around $4 million.

“It was a very good yarding on Friday, everyone commented on the quality,” Corcoran Parker stock agent Kevin Sanderson told the Wangaratta Chronicle.

“I think overall they were very solid sales and most vendors would have walked away happy.”
