ADAM Burchell had one goal heading into Saturday night’s Wangaratta Sports Carnival: to win the 400 metre final.
The 49.008 seconds of gut-busting effort paid off and gave way to emotion as he accomplished his goal.
The night started in the perfect manner for Burchell easily winning his heat after storming home in the final 100 metres.
Due to the lightning delay, the time between Burchell’s heat and final was only 30 minutes, a long way from the usual 90 minute break between races.
Starting off 28 metres, Burchell tore around the track and rounded the bend into the final straight just off the pace of first, but with the roar of the entire Optus balcony urging him on, the star performer found another gear and finished just ahead of Ryan Camille.
It was the second win in a month for Burchell and his first at Wangaratta.
