WANGARATTA is the closest Victorian Athletic League Gift for Albury’s Hayden Wyllie and he will always hold Wangaratta dearly after winning his maiden Gift on Saturday night.
Lightning played a hand in delaying the final heats and semi finals for the 97th running of the Wangaratta Gift, but a tight schedule did little to fluster the 22-year-old as he etched his name into history.
Coming up against former winner and form runner of the evening in Cam Dunbar, Wyllie jumped off nine metres to win by 0.053 seconds in a thriller.
“I am stoked,” Wyllie said.
“This is my first Gift win, I am from Albury so I normally have to do a lot of travelling to get to other meets and to win close to home is great.
“I am over the moon.”
