WANGARATTA teenager Olivia Richards will spend 10 days at sea during the school holidays aboard the Young Endeavour training ship.

Olivia was accepted to participate in the Young Endeavour Youth Scheme, where a crew of 20 young people aged between 16 and 23 years sail from Melbourne to Sydney.

Olivia, a Galen Catholic College student, will depart from Melbourne on Monday and is expected to arrive in Sydney on Thursday, January 25.

The expedition, run by the Australian Navy, aims to help young people increase their confidence and self awareness, and develop their teamwork and leadership skills.

Olivia was inspired to apply about six months ago when the trip was mentioned in the school’s morning bulletin.

“I wanted to apply because I hadn’t been on a ship or been to Sydney before so I thought it would be a good experience,” the 16 year old said.
