A CHILDHOOD holiday spot will become a wedding location today for Darwin resident Paul Brown.

Paul, whose family has been visiting Wangaratta to stay at Painters Island Caravan Park for at least 20 years, will marry fiancé Sally Toogood in front of almost 90 friends and family members.

The nuptials will be the latest hallmark of an association with Wangaratta that stretches back over many years, and many happy summer holidays.

Paul’s mother, Maureen, said the family (originally from Cranbourne) started visiting Wangaratta about 20 years ago, to meet up with her best friend JulieAnne Meagher’s brood.

“Paul is actually named after JulieAnne’s husband, Paul,” she said.

“Their family used to camp at Rosebud, but were after something different, so they started coming here and we heard how good the park was so we tagged along.

“It’s tradition, with the same group of people who keep coming back, and it’s especially great for (husband) Pete and I because we’re in Perth now, to catch up with everyone.”
