CROWDS flocked to Wangaratta Turf Club yesterday to enjoy its Kids’ Day Out country racing event.

Wangaratta Turf Club chief executive officer Paul Hoysted said the club saw around 1200 people come through the gates, many of who were young families.

“It’s been fantastic to see families come here from everywhere, even as far as Melbourne,” he told the Wangaratta Chronicle.

“People are visiting the region to experience the races here.”

One such group of visitors included Wollongong couple, Dean and Jenny Harvey.

“We’re on our way to Tassie from Wollongong so we thought we’d stay in Wangaratta overnight,” Mr Harvey said.

“We love attending country races – it’s less crazy and crowded than the races in Melbourne.”
