WORKS on the new $1.6 million Wangaratta SES headquarters will begin early in 2018 with project design and concept plans rescheduled to be discussed next week.
Funding for the building was announced by Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews in April this year with money allocated in the 2017/18 state budget.
The headquarters will be relocated from the outdated Millard Street facilities to join the emergency services precinct on Handley Street, accompanying CFA and police.
Wangaratta SES volunteers that make up the primary rescue unit for the region have already given some input into what they want at the new facility.
SES North East region manager Keith O’Brien said a meeting with the project manager has been delayed due to recent emergency incidents such as the floods and fires.
“The money is in the current budget so we’re looking to begin construction early in the New Year,” he said.
