WANGARATTA Magpies were the big losers amid Saturday’s cancellation of all play in the Wangaratta and District Cricket Association.

Heavy rainfall on Friday night saw the WDCA make the call early on Saturday morning to abandon all matches, meaning the Magpies’ certain victory against Ovens Valley United was denied, with a draw the result.

The Magpies ended the opening day of the two-day match at Whorouly with a score of 2/51, needing just 14 more runs to claim victory after routing the Tigers for 64.

Given both sides entered the round winless, victory was all the more important.

Rovers United Bruck could also consider itself unlucky after amassing a huge total of 379 runs on day one against City Colts.

In Ovens and Murray Pennant bowls there were missed opportunities for Wangaratta as all round seven matches were called off.
