AN avalanche occurred in Mt Hotham’s backcountry this morning.
There were no injuries to mountain staff or guests.
The incident followed warnings from the Mt Hotham Ski Patrol team regarding the high risk of avalanches in the backcountry due to the large amount of snowfall, cold temperatures and strong winds that have occurred over the last few days.
Mt Hotham Ski Patrol perform avalanche control work daily and noted in their snow report today the danger of sizeable wind slab avalanches at higher elevations.
Mt Hotham has experienced 112cm of fresh snowfall over the last 7 days, totalling 254cm of snowfall in Season 2017 and more on the forecast.
Guests are encouraged to visit the mountain and enjoy the snow conditions within the resort boundaries.
