WHOROULY produced arguably its strongest performance of the season on Saturday and claimed a big scalp in the process, defeating finals-bound Goorambat by three goals.
The Lions set up their win early with a 5.1 to 2.1 opening quarter, then stretched the buffer to 30 points with three goals to one in the third term.
But the Bats, who sit fourth on the ladder, came charging home in the final stanza.
They kicked the first three goals of the period to reduce the deficit to 12 points, and had numerous opportunities to erase the gap altogether.
But the Lions held steady under immense pressure, with an after-the-siren goal giving them an 18-point victory – their fourth win of the season.
Coach Wayne Millis said his charges showed plenty of heart to get over the line.
