A WANGARATTA grandmother struck gold while panning near Eldorado on Friday.
Sue Nagle, who only took up gold panning at Christmas time as a form of physical therapy, said she was shocked when she realised what she had in the bottom of her pan.
“Even half that size is big,” she said.
“Usually I’m happy just to see a few specks at the bottom of the pan.”
The butterfly shaped nugget weighed around 3gms Sue said, giving it a gold value of approximately $170 dollars but its natural shape could push that price to around $300.
“I go out panning as much as I can, it’s become a bit of a hobby,” Sue said.
