AN undefeated run to start the season ended last weekend, and Wangaratta City FC won’t need to find any more motivation to bounce back quickly when they take on Myrtleford in the Ovens Valley derby this weekend.

The Savoys sit in third spot on the Albury Wodonga Football Association table with five wins, a draw and two losses and shape as a threat for the Red Devils’ number one position.

Adding to Wangaratta’s frustration is the six unavailable players from their first choice side with Ryan Van Der Steeg, Matt Jordan and Brendan Barton headlining the missing Devils.

“‘Dutchy’ is obviously out with his knee, Matt Jordan jammed his finger, Barton is a chance to play and Ben Russell had a work place accident,” assistant coach Mario Antonello said.

“It’s a few niggles that have plagued our team from the start of the season; we have still been able to win matches, it has hurt us recently though.

“Mason Hope is another one with a hamstring strain, he will look to play as well – we just have to wait and see how he pulls up today.
