WANGARATTA City has shot three points clear at the top of the Albury Wodonga Football Association table following a commanding 2-0 victory over Boomers FC at Glen Park on Sunday.

The Red Devils did all the attacking early and were rewarded after 11 minutes when Adam Burchell converted from the penalty spot after being brought down illegally inside the box.

The visitors continued to hold sway but plenty of opportunities to add to the lead went begging as shots went just wide and crosses missed their mark.

But with around 10 minutes remaining Burchell blasted in a second goal, taking his season tally to a mammoth 18, to seal the win.

Boomers threw caution to the wind and went on the attack for the last 10 minutes, but Wangaratta’s defence held firm as the side registered its fourth clean sheet of the season.

Assistant coach Mario Antonello said it was a comprehensive victory.
