Burchell’s blitz

ANOTHER Adam Burchell blitz has put Wangaratta City atop the Albury Wodonga Football Association ladder following a 5-0 thumping of Wodonga Diamonds on Sunday.

Burchell was once again unstoppable, netting a hat trick in the space of 16 minutes during the first half before finishing the game with four goals.

The Englishman’s value to the team is highlighted by the fact that when he was out of the side last year due to injury and the club’s visa concerns, the Red Devils struggled mightily.

But there have been no such concerns so far this season, with Burchell bagging 10 goals in the opening three rounds to lead the Devils to a 3-0 start.

Wangaratta City assistant coach Mario Antonello said Burchell was reaping the benefits of a big preseason.

“Burchy did a lot of work with Wally Pasquali over the summer, doing sprint training, and I think he has built up his muscles to make himself more explosive,” Antonello said.
