AFTER doing it tough in the top grade last year, Wangaratta Blue is happy to be stepping back down to section Special B1 when VCTA Country Week tennis kicks off in Yarrawonga on Monday.

The Blue boys were in section A for the first time in 2016, and it was tough going for the Wangaratta Lawn Tennis Club veterans, who were battling against players half their age.

But team captain Barry Sullivan said the side was ready to reassert itself in 2017.

“We’re confident that we can be competitive this year, but it will depend on having an injury-free run,” Sullivan said.

“Preparation this year has been more around body preservation than working hard.

“A course of anti-inflammatories, pain killers and hydration should get us through.
