Added spice for clash

WANGARATTA City Football Club will kick off its 2017 preseason campaign in earnest this weekend, with a trip to McEwen Reserve to take on Goulburn North East Football Association heavyweight Shepparton South.

The clash is part of the qualifying round for the FFA Cup, and Red Devils assistant coach Mario Antonello said it was a game that would have a bit of extra spice for a number of players, including Wangaratta ace Adam Burchell.

Burchell is currently in the process of a potential visa extension, which shapes as a massive boost for the Devils if the star forward is successful.

“Burchy used to play at Shepp South,” Antonello said.

“They ended up picking another visa player over him, who ended up being a massive flop, but it worked out very well for us.

“We’ve also got a couple of new recruits who have come over from there, so there is a bit of history between the two clubs, and a few players will be up against their old side.
