Ledger mares shine at home

IT was a successful day for Ledger Racing at Wangaratta on Monday, with the local stables chalking up two winners and one second placing.

Linda Meech enjoyed a stellar ride aboard Fraulein Rustie in the 1000m Wangaratta Chronicle Handicap, guiding the 4YO mare to victory by a touch over two lengths from Viva La Dance.

Trainer Chris Ledger said he was now looking forward to trying Fraulein Rustie, who has two wins from just three starts, in Melbourne next month.

“Fraulein Rustie likes the shorter trips,” Ledger said.

“She jumped from out wide and ran a beautiful race, so that was very pleasing.

“Her track work had been great and she started second favourite, so it wasn’t a huge surprise, but you never go in expecting to get the win – you just hope to do well.
