HAVING gone winless in the first two rounds Wangaratta was at home to unbeaten Rutherglen on Saturday for the third round of the Ovens and Murray Bowls weekend pennant season.

In windy conditions Wangaratta was able to notch its first win of the season, largely on the back of a dominant victory by Trevor Selwood’s rink.

Selwood with Dennis Wadley (third), Gary Fenlon (second) and Ken Essenhigh (lead) went on a rampage against Bill Campbell’s rink.

They picked up four shots on the first end and never surrendered the lead winning an incredible 17 of the 25 ends played to post a 19-shot victory (35-16).

Maurie Braden’s rink broke free of Graeme Goudie over the last five ends to post a 25-20 win, while Ian Brimblecombe did likewise against Klive Liverton to register a two-shot win (25-23).

Greg McDonald’s rink couldn’t recover from a poor start against Chris Langdon and eventually fell short by 15 shots (13-28).
