GLENROWAN has further bolstered its already impregnable backline, adding Wangaratta centre half back Matt Campbell to its enviable stocks.
Campbell, 20, was best on ground in the Magpies’ under 18 premiership victory over Lavington in 2014, and was in the mix for senior selection this year after some strong performances in the reserves.
Renowned for his closing speed and the ability to outmatch bigger opponents, Campbell is expected to slot straight into the senior line up with the Kelly Tigers.
But with the triple reigning premiers already having signed star full back Lachie Cohen, Glenrowan co-coach Matt Robinson said Campbell wouldn’t be pigeon-holed as a defender.
“We’ve had a bit of a chat to Matt about the role he has played previously, and to start with we will probably plonk him into the backline,” Robinson said.
“But he’s not going to be a permanent defender.
