PRIME POSITION: Adam Bennett will be one of the judges at the Prime Lamb competition at this year’s Wangaratta Show.

THIS year’s Wangaratta Show will include a prime lamb competition among the other regular show events.

Competitions for local cattle, sheep, horses, pigeons and poultry have all been popular in the past so organisers decided it was time spring lambs were given the opportunity to take centre stage.

“We have had some interest in a lamb competition in the past so we thought we might as well do it and bring more sheep to the show,” Simone Lewis, a steward in the lamb competition told the Wangaratta Chronicle.

The competition is sponsored by Elders and will be conducted in two classes:

Class 1: Supermarket Class approximately 36-42kg live weight pen of two; and

Class 2: Retail Trade Class approximately 42.1-48kg live weight pen of two.

Adam Bennett, a fifth generation sheep farmer from Everton Upper, is one of the competition judges and said he was looking forward to the event.

“The lambs have experienced a fair bit of rain but most should be in pretty good condition,” he said.
