Loss won’t derail Roos

KING Valley suffered a hiccup in its finals preparations at the weekend, going down to Tarrawingee by two goals in a thrilling encounter at Whitfield.

The Roos, celebrating shooter Larissa Benci’s 300th match, were uncharacteristically flat in the opening term, failing to match the intensity set by the Bulldogs.

While Benci shot a perfect six from six, King Valley’s chances were limited as Tarrawingee created turnovers in the midcourt, with Maddie Canning and Renee Morgan piling on the pressure.

Down by four goals at the first change, King Valley lifted in the second quarter with strong play from Leah Kelly and Renee Palmer in the middle.

But the Roos were made to work hard for their scores, while Tarrawingee’s shooters were flawless, with Amanda Bell and Kaylee Seymour making every attempt for the period as the Bulldogs maintained their advantage.

The Roos made their charge in the third, with Benci unstoppable, amassing 13 goals without a miss to lead her team back to within one, down 38-39 with a quarter to play.
