WANGARATTA police are continuing joint operations seeking to stamp out any illegal shooting activity, particularly spotlighting for deer, within the King Valley.
Acting Sergeant Cameron Miller said officers, together with enforcement officers from Game Management Authority (GMA) and the Department of Environment, Water, Land and Planning, have been conducting operations into illegal spotlighting and hunting on crown land in recent months.
“We’ve had a number of complaints from the public, including landholders, and we’ve been pretty active in the Whitfield/Cheshunt area,” Act Sgt Miller said.
“We’ve been doing both random and targeted patrols.
“A majority of the people we’ve spoken to have been legitimate licenced hunters, fully aware and complying with regulations.
“Some have been lawfully involved in pest control measures.”
